Data Storage and Backup

Data is your companies most valuable and hard to replace asset. You not only have to store your data properly, securely but you have to backup your data as well. Loosing data can interrupt your business, can create legal, financial and reputational problems. This is why corporate storage and backup systems are developed.

Destek A.Ş. provides consultancy, configuration and technical support services for data storage and backup systems based on customer demands.

Traditional storage units

Nowadays as the protection of data is important, so is the continuity of accessibility to that data.

Traditional storage units are briefly accessed via the protocols below.

DAS (Direct Attached Storage)

Storage units directly connect to the server with a fiber, SAS cable. This method is inexpensive and has a high performance but its scalability and management are limited.

NAS (Network Attached Storage)

Storage units connect to clients and servers through network protocols. This is the most commonly used method among business. It's relatively inexpensive and has an acceptable performance.

SAN (Storage Area Networks)

Storage units connect to servers via SCSI protocols. They communicate via FC, FCOE, iSCSI protocols through fiber or copper cables, according to needs. Infrastructure costs are higher when compared to NAS and DAS. Has an improved performance and features scalability and management.

Object Based Storage

Contrary to the traditional data storage architecture, object based storage is a next generation storage solution where metadata is added to the corresponding data blocks, and data is stored and accessed in a secure and fast way. Solutions in the areas of e-mail, medical data, audio and video archiving are offered with object based storages.

Data Archiving

Transferring and storing backed up cold data in low cost and secure archives according to archiving policies is very important.

In this regard, physical tape backups need to be done and stored in safe spaces outside of the data center.

In order to reduce cost of archiving settings, deduplication and compression technologies are used and products that perform better with these technologies are preferred.

Virtual and Physical Tape Libraries

Virtual and physical tape libraries, which are essentials to data backup and archiving, are preferred according to budget, performance and storage time requirements. The architecture called LTO (Linear Tape Open) which has high compression ratios is preferred due to the high maintenance of information integrity. In this architecture, devices can read from the ones from two generations ago and write to the ones from one generation ago. For instance, an LOT-7 product can read data from an LTO-5 product but can't write to it. Virtual Tape Libraries (VTL) are sotfware based libraries which present themselves as physical tape libraries. This way, backups can be kept on physical disks and shorter backup and return times can be achieved. Virtual Tape Libraries have high compression, deduplication and performance values.

Backup Software

Backup software is used to manage backup and archiving processes, provide folder, file or setting based restore when problems occur. Many applications are available from ones that meet all requirements of big corporations to the ones that solve simple backups of personal users.
